The Women’s Challenge Club is an activity and outdoor pursuits club for women in Devon. The aim is to enable women of all ages (minimum age 16) and abilities to take part in a wide range of activities that they have perhaps always wanted to do but never had the opportunity to enjoy before. The activities are non-competitive and fun is the key word!
The Club emerged from a Women’s Outdoor Activity week organised by OutReach in 1994. From this start a group of enthusiasts formed the Women’s Challenge Club to be run for the members, by the members as it is entirely run by volunteers.
What they do
The Club offers instructed activities throughout the year, on average six to ten events each year although there are often more than this each month. Activities range from climbing and caving to kayaking and coasteering. Anyone wanting to organise an event will be given help and advice and no previous experience is required. From introductory level through to intermediate to advanced levels, members can organise a whole host of challenges for a range of abilities. Experienced and well-qualified instructors and providers are used for specialised activities. Many events are half or whole day and weekend trips can also be organised.
The events calendar is updated regularly and early booking is necessary with instructed events providing all the equipment required.
Membership is just £12 per year and the cost of each activity is advertised with the event details. Additional social and informal events are usually free and provide even more opportunity to get to know fellow club members and make friends.
So if there is an activity that you’ve always wanted to try or a challenge that you would like to train for then meet up with like minded women and keep active outdoors.
